The 2011 moose hunt lottery drawing will be held on Friday June 17.
ATTENTION!!!
Hunting moose can be extremely difficult, especially in southern and National Forest zones.
Be prepared to do A LOT of walking!
The moose is the largest big game animal in North America. NH moose stand an average of 6' - 7' to the shoulder with an average weight of around 800 pounds.
Moose spend the summer months in the lower elevations where it is cooler. They feed on sodium rich aquatic vegetation. This explains why moose are often seen standing in the mud on the side of the road in the spring and summer months. In late summer, as the rut (mating season) approaches, moose start to make their way up into higher country. They can often be seen feeding in old clear-cuts in pairs or small groups as bulls compete for cows.
New Hampshire's moose season usually occurs at the tail end of the rut. Most moose will be solitary by this time however, bulls and cows will still likely respond to calling. Calling moose makes for an exciting adventure. When a bull moose comes in to a call they are usually grunting, thrashing brush, and breaking branches.
We begin scouting for your NH guided moose hunt with a few preliminary trips throughout the summer. Due to the fact that during and after the rut, most moose move from summer to fall locations, we begin the bulk of our scouting in late summer/early fall. We could send you pictures of moose standing in swamps and ponds all summer just to get you excited but it would be deceptive. Those moose will most likely be somewhere else come late October. That's not to say that other moose wouldn't be there but we want to give you an honest appraisal of the area you will be hunting. Rather than "here are some moose, send us a check, see you in October".
We offer clients the opportunity to come scouting with us several times prior to the season if they are available to do so.
We guide statewide with a special focus on WMUs L&M (where we live and hunt) and usually offer one fully-guided and one semi-guided hunt. When our fully-guided hunter(s) tags out we turn our attention to our semi-guided hunter(s).
